JWOC 2010 main project for next time

This project will be realized during 2008-2009 years. Any anouther proposals will be not possible...

Also in free time I plane to make totally new survey of "Gødvad" map for Silkeborg OK. As basis map will be used topo map together with Google Earth photos.

Norway is my 13th surveying country

I am not sure that this “number 13” bring the good luck. But now for me is clear – this number bring surprises. Before my trip to Norway I am expected to work in typical Norwegian forest, but the area looks like some parts in Austria or Slovenia. The organizer this work in Norway is Indre-Ostfold OK. It is nice to have accommodation direct on the map – Tore and Harder arrange it. After two days survey I had first checking and discussion with Havard (controller the map) in the forest. I expect that in next two month will be surveyed 6-7 s.km area.

The Danish orienteering federation successfully introduces Laser scanning!

Snow in the end of March has detained for some days the begin of my work in area Aalborg. But orthophoto (0.5 meter/pixel) and OCAD file with Laser scanning data which I have received from DOF, makes pleasant impression. Contours are traced through 1,25 m. My task: to finish surveying a small fragment, to estimate quality of base maps and to be defined with speed of survey for area of similar type.

February-March: island in sea of Marmara!

To the best turkish orienteering club from Istanbul has luck again: I had a free time and I am going to survey the first island in my history. The island "Heybeliada" is located near to Istanbul in sea of Marmara and will be used for 5 days competition in this year (www.ist5days,com). Preliminary I have prepared images (200 x 300 m) from Google Earth with UTM grid, have processed them, have executed georeference all data. The Internet on island at me most likely will not be, so online the reporting is not expected too (Google map external llink).

Laser scanning - revolution in orienteering since 1989

So characterize Swiss mappers in the report at an annual mapping seminar in Aarau. In the report are examined kinds of laser scanning dates, colorful examples of use laser scanning during survey are gived (PDF-external link).

My schedule for 2008 year

At begin of January was fixed main projects for 2008 year. Two projects has top priority: Denmark (Aalborg) for JWOC 2010 and Norway for Indre Ostfold OK (schedule...)

Autumn: mapping for 3 days of Belgium 2008 in Arlon

It will be new survey of all areas for 3 days of Belgium. As base maps will be used
orthophoto and maps in scale 1:10000. According to information from existing o-maps and responses of the belgian sportsmen, it is possible to assume, that it will be one of the most interesting areas in Belgium (more...)
